In April 2011, Hangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin and Wuhan were selected by the Central Organization Department as the four major centers for the Science and Technology Cities of the Future. Strategic and master planning has been completed and continued development of the plans for implementation and construction is ongoing. The Metro Waterfront Park and Main Entry designs shown here are in the Yuhang District of the Hangzhou Future Technology City. The experience of movement and destination are explored as simultaneous activities with pedestrian and bike corridors adjacent to programmed park areas. The park design addresses issues experienced by IT professionals such as long and close views for improved eye health and provides public and private outdoor gathering spaces. The Main Entry design for this high-tech city uses LED lights, sculpted landforms, and tree planting to make the visual cadence as experienced from a car a performative event.
