The brief for the master plan called for eight themed gardens. Each will offer intimate dining and lodging facilities. Other facilities are a Botanical Garden Center, Commercial nursery, a 150 room resort hotel, and urban residential area and new town center, as well as the creation of a wetland park. The 230 hectare site is located in the northeast of the city along the banks of the famous Li River. Guilin is noted for dramatic karst rock formations that are well known worldwide. The existing site is essentially used for wetland farming. Once determining the most appropriate location for each of the programmatic elements, AGER created a dramatic pedestrian loop that connects the elements one to another, and serves as the dramatic design feature unifying the site.
